If you've always been interested in having a go at #brewing, our Brew Experience Day is for you. We offer a standard and a premium package to suit all pockets.

This week we were joined by a group of regular customers from the Needle & Pin #micropub in #Loughborough. They are a good group of blokes who have been supporting the #pub since it opened it's doors 2 years ago. They have already been taken on a journey in #beer by the enthusiastic publican (and expert #brewer in his own right) Sean O'Neill. From chaps who would just order something boring and brown in the early days, they have become beer explorers, with diverse and experimental palates. This newly developed passion for beer was why Sean picked them to take the next step and try their hand at brewing their own beer here at the Old Sawley Brewing Company.

After an introduction to the brewing process by Mark Tetlow of The Beer Hub and some breakfast cobs, the team set to work in the brewery. They got involved in every stage of creating their chosen style of beer - in this case a light pale ale. From mashing in, through to the beginning of the fermentation process, they were fully hands on.

Brew it yourself
As well as actually brewing their choice of beer, they had a lot of other work to do. When we say that our Brew Experience Day makes you a brewer for the day, we mean it! This meant that they were cleaning casks, monitoring temperature and gravity, cleaning out the mash tun and the copper and a lot more besides! From head brewer to cellarman, they got to experience it all to help them gain a better understanding of how a brewery works.

Another job the group were tasked with was to come up with a name and a concept for the pump clip for their new beer. This was duly done and we worked up a pump clip design for them over the day. However, we can't tell you what it is just yet. We're saving the big launch for when the beer is ready in a few weeks time. The fruits of their labour will be available at the Needle & Pin so keep an eye on this website and our Facebook page for more information to follow.

A fun day out
Of course, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so we took the opportunity for a lunch break and the chance to taste a few of the Old Sawley Brewing Company beers on offer at our sister pub, The White Lion!

If you're interested in finding out more about our Brew Experience Days, take a look at the details on our Events page. We recommend group sizes of 4 to 8 people to get the most out of the experience. This day is suitable for everyone over 18 - a group of friends like those we welcomed this week, a corporate group for a team building exercise or a perk for your preferred clients - give us a call with your requirements and we'll make sure you can be accommodated.
